Illicit liquor brewery busted, woman apprehended during naval raid

After having raided an illicit liquor brewing centre in Uchchamunei area, Kalpitiya on 15^th April 2020, the Navy managed to apprehend a woman at the illicit arrack den, with a stock of illicit liquor.

Sri Lanka Navy which has been playing an instrumental role in controlling the spread of the corona threat in the country, is also carrying out regular operations to strengthen the security of the country and curb illegal activities. During a similar operation conducted by naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Command in the Uchchamunai area in Kalpitiya, an illicit liquor brewing centre was raided and a woman had been apprehended with a stock of illicit liquor. Further, approximately 150 liters of goda used for the manufacture of illicit liquor, 36 liters of illicit liquor and some equipment used for the manufacture of liquor were taken into naval custody.

The accused was identified as a 49 year old woman in the same locality. The suspect along with the stock of illicit liquor and illicit liquor brewing equipment was handed over to the Kalpitiya Police for onward legal action.
