Navy assists apprehension of 08 suspects with heroin

The Navy apprehended 08 suspects with heroin, during a coordinated operation conducted with the Division Vice Squad Mannar in South Bar, Mannar on 15^th April 2020.

Sri Lanka Navy, which is backing the national task of eradicating the drug menace from Sri Lanka, has been conducting regular operations to apprehend drug traffickers. During a similar anti-drug operation, naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command and Division Vice Squad Mannar had detected 08 persons wandering in the general area of South Bar. When further searched, about 1020mg of heroin had been found in their possession. Accordingly, the suspects were taken into custody.

The suspects were identified as residents of Negombo and Mannar areas. Meanwhile, the accused along with heroin were handed over to the Mannar Police for onward investigation.
