Navy apprehends 02 persons for distilling illicit alcohol
During a patrol conducted from Norochcholai to Karmba in Daluwa on 14th April 2020, the Navy raided an illicit arrack den and apprehended 02 persons engaged in distillation of illicit alcohol.
While playing a key role in arresting the spread of the new coronavirus within the county, Sri Lanka Navy has also been conducting operations to strengthen the security of the country and curb illegal activities being performed during curfew hours. Accordingly, a group of naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Command carried out a patrol from Norochcholai to Karmba in Daluwa region and apprehended 02 persons secretly engaged in distillation of illicit alcohol in a marshy land in Sethapola area. During the operation, about 750 litres of illicit liquor and equipment used to distillation of it were taken into naval custody.
The apprehended persons were identified as residents of the same area, aged 22 and 31. Meanwhile, the suspects along with the stock of illicit liquor and equipment used to distillation it was handed over to the Norochcholai Police for onward investigation.
