Navy assists apprehension of 07 persons with moonshine
Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 07 persons in possession of moonshine, during a patrol conducted from Tangalle to Beliatta and at a roadblock in Gintota on 12th April 2020.
While playing a key role in arresting the spread of the new coronavirus within the county, Sri Lanka Navy has also been conducting operations to strengthen the security of the country and curb illegal activities being performed during curfew hours. Accordingly, a group of naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command, during a patrol from Tangalle to Beliatta, nabbed 06 persons who had been drinking moonshine in a thicket by the road. Meanwhile, another group of naval personnel, while inspecting a motorcycle at the Gintota roadblock, had recovered three (03) bottles of local liquor. Accordingly, the motorbike rider, along with the bottles of illegal liquor was taken into custody.
The apprehended persons were identified as residents of Beliatta and Modarawana areas. The accused along with illicit liquor and motorbike were handed over to the Galle and Beliatta Police stations for onward legal action.
