Visit of Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army to Northern Naval Area

The Acting Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva paid an official visit to the Northern Naval Headquarters on 12th April 2020. The Acting Chief of Defence Staff was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera at the Northern Naval Command Headquarters.

During the visit, Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army held a cordial discussion on current situation in the area highlighting the outbreak of pandemic of COVID-19. In parallel with the event, a presentation was conducted by Command Operation Officer (N) on preparedness to counter the outbreak of COVID-19 in the area and remedial action taken by NNA to prevent influx of possible immigrants.

Conversely, the Acting Chief of Defence Staff praised the remarkable contribution made by the Navy in apprehending contraband, during his address to naval personnel in Northern Naval Area.

Further, Acting CDS and entourage were accompanied by HODs of the area to the on-going new pier construction project at Kankesanturai harbour.
