Navy-improvised disinfection chamber set up at Colombo National Hospital

Another disinfection chamber built by the Navy’s Research and Development (R&D) Unit under Naval Social Responsibility (NSR) Project was handed over for the use of Outpatient Department (OPD) at the National Hospital, Colombo today (10th April 2020).

The Naval Social Responsibility Project is being operated under direct supervision of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. Going further step ahead with NSR initiatives, this disinfection chamber developed by Research and Development Unit of Sri Lanka Navy was handed over for the use of Outpatient Department (OPD) at the National Hospital, Colombo. In response to a request made by the Deputy Director General of the hospital from Commander of the Navy, this disinfection chamber was handed over for the benefit of the hospital. The new installation will be useful to decontaminate a large number of people coming to the hospital for treatment on daily basis as well as the hospital staff.

As part of the Naval Social Responsibility Project, the Navy R&D Unit has already produced and handed over disinfection chambers of this kind to several hospitals. Further, its latest innovation – a remote controlled smart appliance called ‘Medi Mate’ was handed over to the Dr. Nevil Fernando Teaching Hospital to treat COVID-19 patients, remaining at a safe distance.
