Person in possession of heroin held with assistance of Navy

The Navy together with Police apprehended a person in possession of heroin, near the Malwathuoya Bridge in Silawathura on 09^th April 2020.

The Sri Lanka Navy, which has been a regular contributor to control the looming threat of COVID – 19 in the island, is also continuing its operations to ward off illegal drugs in the country. Accordingly, naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Command together with Silawathura Police conducted an operation near the Malwathuoya Bridge and intercepted a suspicious person travelling by a motorbike. During further search, the raiding party managed to find about 2.55g of heroin in the possession of the suspect. Accordingly, the suspect along with the motorbike was taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as a 26 year old resident of Mannar. Meanwhile, the Silawathura Police is conducting further investigation into the incident.
