Navy assists apprehension of 02 persons with Kerala cannabis

The Navy apprehended 02 persons with Kerala cannabis, during a coordinated operation conducted with the Army and Police in Tharapuram, Mannar on 09^th April 2020.

In support of the government’s efforts to create a society free of drugs, the Navy has been conducting regular anti-drug operations within the island and off its shores. During these operations, the Navy managed to seize large consignments of narcotics in recent years. Meanwhile, naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command, during a coordinated search conducted with the Army and Police, intercepted a suspicious motorbike at the roadblock of Tharapuram, Mannar and apprehended 02 suspects who had 51.94g of Kerala cannabis in their possession. The motorbike used by the suspects was also taken into custody.

The 02 accused were identified as residents of Silawathura area, aged 40 and 43. The suspects along with Kerala cannabis and the motorbike were handed over to the Mannar Police for onward investigation.
