Navy apprehends 04 persons for breaching curfew laws in Wadduvakkal, Mullaitivu
The Navy on 08th April 2020 apprehended 04 persons at the roadblock of Wadduvakkal in Mullaitivu, for breaching curfew laws and transporting vegetables and fish by 02 cabs, without a valid curfew pass.
An island wide curfew has been imposed to control the spread of the COVID-19 situation and for the safety of the general public. It is in such circumstances the suspects were travelling by 02 cabs disregarding the current curfew laws and the suspects had been intercepted at the roadblock of Wadduvakkal in front of the naval base SLNS ‘Gotabaya’ by naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command. Even if the cabs were loaded with vegetables and fish stocks, 04 persons in the vehicles were held by Navy for transporting those stocks without valid curfew passes.
The apprehended persons along with the stocks of vegetable and fish and vehicles were handed over to the Mullaitivu Police for onward investigation. At a time when it is the people's concern and responsibility to support the government's programmes to control the spread of coronavirus within the country, the Navy will continue to take action against those who are irresponsible and reckless in these testing times.
