Navy renders assistance to raid illicit arrack den in Puttalam

The Navy, during a coordinated search conducted with the Police, raided an illicit arrack den in Nelumwewa Kalladi, Puttalam on 08^th April 2020. The raiding party also held a suspect in the location and equipment used to distil illicit liquor.

The coordinated search operation was conducted by naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Command together with Puttalam Police. Accordingly, the raiding party managed to apprehend the suspect who was secretly distilling illicit liquor in a house. Along with the suspect, 260 litres of illicit arrack and several equipment used to distil it were also taken into custody.

The accused has been identified as a 27 year old resident in the same area. Meanwhile, the Puttalam Police is conducting further investigation into the incident.
