Navy renders assistance to douse sudden fire at Galle fisheries harbour

The Navy and the Fire Brigade Galle on 08th April 2020 sprang into action to douse a fire erupted in a multi-day fishing trawler which was undergoing repairs at the Galle fisheries harbour.

On receipt of a distress call to the operations room of Southern Naval Command of a sudden fire broke out in a multi-day fishing trawler, a firefighting team was dispatched to the location promptly. The Navy firefighters attached to the Southern Naval Command rushed to the scene of fire with 02 water bowsers and managed to extinguish the flames with the assistance of Fire Brigade Galle, leaving no chance for the fire to catch nearby fishing vessels.

Further investigations in to the incident are being carried out by the Galle Harbour Police as the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Being one of the first responders to arrive and provide assistance at the scene of an emergency, Sri Lanka Navy remains standby to assist the public around the clock.
