Navy found Kerala cannabis in the seas off Kakkativu Island

The Navy recovered approximately 1kg and 400g of Kerala cannabis, during a patrol conducted in the seas off Kakkativu island in Mannar, today (8^th April 2020).

While engaging in the activities to control the spread of coronavirus, SL Navy is fulfilling its responsibility to provide the protection in seas around the island. Accordingly, Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command, on patrol, spotted a suspicious parcel floating in the sea. During further search to parcel, approximately 1kg and 400g of Kerala cannabis in wet weight, was found.

It is suspected that this stock of Kerala Cannabis which might have smuggled through sea routes have been dumped to sea due to continuous naval patrols. The recovered stock of Kerala cannabis was handed over to Jayapuram Police Station for onward investigation.
