Thirteen sea turtle hatchlings released to the ocean at Galle Face beach by Navy Turtle Conservation Project

Thirteen(13) more sea turtle hatchlings emerged from the turtle conservation site at the Galle Face beach, were released to the ocean on 6^th April 2020.

With the basic objective of conservation of endangered sea turtle species for the protection of the biodiversity of marine eco system, several sea turtle conservation projects are being maintained by Navy under the instructions of Commander of the Navy and the Head of the Marine and Environment conservation Committee Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. As a result of Navy’s maintenance the Galle Face beach removing plastic, polythene and other waste, Navy recovered that sea turtles have laid eggs in the beach. Later on, the recovered eggs were kept for hatching on the spot, under the direct supervision of Commander of the Navy. After a successful incubation period, 13 more hatchlings emerged there, were released to the ocean on 6th April 2020. Further, 83 sea turtle hatchlings emerged from the same site had been released to the ocean on 5th February 2020.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy which foresees the significance of the conservation of marine creatures and resources, directs its manpower efficiently for conservation activities along the coastal areas of the island.
