Navy assists to transport essential food to Nainativu island
SL Navy provided the necessary assistance to transport essential food items to the Nainativu island in Jaffna, on 31st March 2020.
The government is implementing number of programmes in order to control the new coronavirus in the country, and another initiative is being trialed to provide the essential food and household items to the civilians’ homes. Accordingly, a programme to provide essential items to the civilians in the Nainativu island was commenced by franchise shops managed by the Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE). The required sea transportation to activate this programme was provided by the Naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command with the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera under the directives of Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva.
Further, Navy will be continuing the social responsibility assistance for general public who are distressed in getting their day today requirements done, under the curfew situation.
