Two persons held by Navy with banned fishing net

Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 02 persons with a banned fishing net, during an operation carried out at Jinnapuram area in Kokilai, on 31^st March 2020.

Since,marine resources are harmed by illegal means of fishing and Navy frequently conducts operations to turn away these activities to preserve fish and other maritime resources. Naval personnel attached to the Eastern naval Command has observed a suspicious motor tricycle and a motorbike during an operation carried out at Jinnapuram area in Kokilai, on 31^st March 2020. While on further search to motor tricycle, a banned net used for illegal fishing was found. Accordingly, two suspects along with motor tricycle and motorbike were taken into naval custody.

The apprehended persons are residents of Pulmodai area aged 39 and 45. The suspects along with the apprehended motor tricycle and motorbike were handed over to Pulmudai Police for onward action.
