Navy finds a haul of illegal conch shells
The Navy, during a search conducted at Urumalai area in Thalaimannar, on 30th March 2020, recovered a haul of conch shells which were hidden in a shrubby area.
During this search carried out at Urumalai area in Thalaimannar, on 30th March 2020, by the Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command, 1150 conch shells (smaller than 70mm in diameter) which were hidden in a shrubby area, were recovered and taken into Naval custody.
It is believed that the smugglers have hidden this stock of conch shells due to the continuous naval raids and the seized conch shells were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries in Mannar for onward investigation.
