Navy holds a group of persons for engaging in fishing using unauthorized nets
The Navy held 14 persons who engaged in fishing, using unauthorized nets with 05 dinghies during a patrol carried out at Pudumathalan sea area in Mulathivu, on 27th March 2020.
Navy constantly conducts patrols and raids to prevent the illegal fishing activities and such another patrol was conducted by a team of Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, at Pudumathalan sea area in Mulathivu. During the patrol 14 persons who engaged in fishing, using unauthorized nets were apprehended. Five dinghies, 01 unauthorized net, a stock of more than 4000kg of illegally caught fish (Para) and other fishing gear were also taken into naval custody. The suspects are residents of Pudumathalan area.
The apprehended persons along with unauthorized fishing net, stock of fish, 05 dinghies and other fishing gear belonging to them were handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries-Mulativu for onward action.
