Navy apprehends four persons for illegal transportation of cattle

Four (04) persons who were illegally transporting cattle were apprehended by Navy during a raid carried out at Eluwankulama area in Kalpitiya, on 27^th March 2020.

SL Navy frequently conducts patrols in order to curb illegal activities and as such extension naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Command conducted an operation at Eluwankulama area in Kalpitiya, on 27^th March 2020. During the operation, two suspicious motor bikes and a cab were spotted and while on further search 05 cattle which were being illegally transported on the cab were found. Accordingly, two persons who were in the cab were apprehended and when investigated further, it was revealed that two riders on motor bikes were also combined to the illegal activity and they were taken into naval custody. The apprehended four suspects are residents of Puttalam and Eluwankulama areas.

It is suspected that the five (05) cattle were being transported to kill for meat. The four suspects, cab, two motor bikes and cattle were handed over to Wanathavilluwa Police for further investigation.
