Navy provides relief to needy community in island sector
Sri Lanka Navy today (26th March 2020) launched a programme to distribute dry rations to the community living in the island sector, Jaffna peninsula.
On the directives of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, the Sri Lanka Navy is conducting various programmes to strengthen the initiatives implemented by the government to control the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.
Accordingly, a programme to distribute dry rations to needy people in the island sector, Jaffna peninsula was held today (26th March 2020) under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera. Over 698 essential dry ration parcels were distributed among the needy people in the Nayanathivu and Eluwathivu islands as part of this effort.
Heads of Departments, senior and junior officers and sailors attached to the Northern Naval Command also participated in this event. Meanwhile, the Navy is ready to take part in similar social welfare activities in circumstance where the islanders are scourged by new coronavirus.
