Navy conducts sterilization programme at religious places and residences in Jaffna
As a measure to prevent the spread of new coronavirus in the country, the Navy conducted a sterilization programme in religious places and residences in Chunnakam, Jaffna Peninsula on 23rd March 2020.
Under the guidance of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, a number of sterilization programmes are being carried out in public places, to strengthen the joint mechanism of the government to control the spread of the virus in the country, in the backdrop new coronavirus has been declared by the WHO as an epidemic.
Accordingly, under the guidance of Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera, Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, this disinfection program was carried out in Chunnakkam, Jaffna, responding to a request made by the Regional Directorate of Health Services in Jaffna.
The sterilization programme was carried out by Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit attached to the Northern Naval Command. Consequently, the CBRN Unit sterilized a Kovil and several houses in Thavadi and Thavadi North, to avoid the fear of spreading the virus in the area, following sanitization and disinfection guidelines.
Further, the Navy is taking all possible measures to prevent the spread of the virus for public safety.
