Navy commences renovation of Medical Intensive Care Unit at Colombo General Hospital
The renovation work of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Colombo General Hospital to treat patients diagnosed with COVID -19, was commenced by Navy, today (23rd March 2020).
Accordingly, considering the possible emergency situation in the country by influence of coronavirus, the renovation of the Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the General Hospital, Colombo began today and the manpower for construction work was provided by Sri Lanka Navy, in a bid to swiftly put up necessary facilities to treat the patients diagnosed with COVID -19. A group of civil engineers attached to the Western Naval Command were assigned to this task on the instructions of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. As such, construction work is in progress to expand facilities of the ICU, in case its necessity is felt to treat patients diagnosed with COVID -19.
Further, the Navy is working around the clock to complete the renovation work as soon as possible, to meet this urgent need. Through initiatives of this nature, the Navy is determined to enhance the coordinated efforts of the government to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
