VBSS Course on Transfer Immigrants Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (TIPSOM) concludes in Trincomalee
A Visit Board Search & Seizure (VBSS) Course conducted in the field of Transfer Immigrants Persons & Smuggling of Migrants (TIPSOM) for personnel of Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Coast Guard, affiliated to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Programme, was officially terminated today (20th March 2020) at the Special Boat Squadron Training School, Trincomalee.
This series of programmes is being conducted following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the course was presided over by Training Commander Special Boat Squadron Training School, Commander (SBS) Nishshanka Wickramasinghe. Officials from the UNODC were also present on this occasion. Thirteen (13) local students - eight (08) from Sri Lanka Coast Guard, two (02) female participants from Naval Provost Branch, three (03) participants from Special Boat Squadron completed the course.
The course was held at the Special Boat Squadron HQ, Trincomalee over 12 days. The training programme was designed in such a manner for SLN personnel to enhance their knowledge mainly on TIPSOM, drug identification, drug transferring methods and planning, dealing with overcrowded vessels preparation and boarding procedures.
