Three persons engaged in fishing without passes apprehended by Navy

Navy nabbed three (03) persons for engaging in illegal fishing in the seas South of Mannar on 18^th March 2020.

Sri Lanka Navy conducts continuous patrols in Sri Lankan waters to protect marine resources. During such a patrol conducted by SL Navy ship “Rathnadeepa” in the seas South of Mannar, had searched few dinghies engaged in fishing and found a dinghy which was on illegal fishing without valid pass. Accordingly, three persons aboard and the dinghy were apprehended.

The apprehended persons have been identified as residents of Thalpadu in Mannar age between 19 and 26. The suspects together with the seized dinghy and fishing gear were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector-Mannar for onward action.
