Navy recovers haul of unauthorized nets

During a search operation carried out today on 18^th March 2020, Navy personnel have been able to hold a haul of unauthorized nets, in the Batticoloa lagoon area.

Keeping with Sri Lanka Navy’s efforts to restrain illegal fishing activities in the country’s territorial waters in order to protect marine eco system, naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command conducted a search operation in the lagoon area of Batticaloa, on 18^th March 2020. Accordingly, these unauthorized nets which had been laid for fishing, were recovered and those were taken into naval custody.

Subsequently, these unauthorized nets are due to be handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Batticaloa for onward legal action.
