Person apprehended with locally made gun

The Navy apprehended a person with a locally made gun, during a coordinated search conducted with the Police in Rottai, Pothuvil today (18^th March 2020).

The Navy has been conducting regular operations in support of the national effort to prevent illegal activities. A group of naval personnel attached to the Southeastern Naval Command with Sasthraweli Police STF conducted this search in Rottai, Pothuvil and spotted a suspicious person. During further search of the suspect, an unlicensed locally made gun, 01 live ammunition, 10 blank ammunition, 30g of gunpowder, 12 ball racers and hunting equipment had been found. Accordingly, the suspect together with items belonging to him was taken into custody by the Navy.

The accused has been identified as a resident of Pothuvil area, aged 25. Meanwhile, the suspect along with the locally made gun, ammunition, gunpowder and other items was handed over to the Pothuvil Police for onward investigation.
