Navy apprehends 17 persons for illegal fishing without valid license

The Navy apprehended 17 persons for illegal fishing without valid license, during two search operations carried out on 14^th March.

Accordingly, during patrols carried out by the Naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command apprehended 11 persons engaged in illegal fishing in the seas South west of Norway island on 03 trawlers. And 06 persons who engaged in fishing without pass, in Poduwakattu sea area on three dinghies, were also apprehended.

The apprehended persons has been identified as residents Muthur, Kuchchaweli and Kahatagasdigiliya areas aged between 21 to 29.

The suspects along with the 03 trawlers and the 03 dinghes were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries and Fisheries Inspector of Kuchchaweli for onward action.
