Suspect apprehended with locally made gun
During a foot patrol conducted in the general area of Weddukadu in Chavakachcheri today (14th March 2020), the Navy managed to apprehend a suspect with a locally made gun.
Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting regular search operations to prevent legal activities. During such an operation conducted by a group of naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command, a suspicious person on a motorbike has been searched in the general area of Weddukadu. Accordingly, a locally made gun without valid license, 08 lead balls, 10g of gunpowder, 30 ball racers and a torch were found in his possession. Subsequently, the suspect was taken into custody along with the items.
The accused has been identified as a resident of Pooneryn area. The suspect together with explosive items and motorbike was handed over to the Pooneryn Police for onward investigation.
