Person nabbed for keeping conch shells without valid permit
The Navy apprehended a person for keeping conch shells without valid permit, during a search operation conducted with the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar in Urumalei, Talaimannar on 13th March 2020.
As part of the Navy’s continuous operations to prevent illegal activities, a group of naval personnel belonging to the North Central Naval Command with the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar carried out this search operation in Urumalei, Talaimannar. During the search, the raiding party managed to recover 420 conch shells hidden in a fishing hut. Meanwhile, a suspect in connection to this incident was held and he was identified as a 42 year old resident of Talaimannar (South).
Mannar Assistant Directorate of Fisheries is conducting further investigation with regard to the suspect and stock of conch shells.
