The 4th annual academic sessions of Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine Concludes successfully

The 4th Annual Academic Session of SLCOMM was held on 13th March 2020, at Eagles Lakeside Convention and Banquet Hall Aththidiya with the gracious presence of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Major General (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne as the chief guest.

The Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) which marked its inception in 2016, is a professional body consisting of about 400 Medical and Dental doctors of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force. The unique feature of the SLCOMM is that its membership consists with all military consultants and doctors which provides a platform for the exchange of expertise among the medical fraternity. The 4th Annual Session of SLCOMM was held under the theme “Towards the Excellence in Military Healthcare Delivery” and Dr.Anula Wijesundere, Consultant Physician, Immediate Past President Sri Lanka Medical Association, Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, Senior state officials, Retired Military senior officers from the Tri Forces, Officials from Ministry of Health and Medical and Dental officers from all three forces were present on the occasion.

Surgeon Rear Admiral Senarupa Jayawardena the Director General Health Services Sri Lanka Navy and President of the SLCOMM delivered the welcome address and the Presidential address.He emphasized on the relationship between SLCOMM and other International Military Medicine Organizations as well as the activities performed by the SLCOMM to deliver a better service to the Tri Forces and the country.

The Keynote speech of the Annual session was delivered by Chairman of the International Committee of Military Medicine, Major General (Rted), Geert Laire, MD from Brussels, Belgium. The Guest of Honour, Dr.Anula Wijesundere explained the Military involvement in the development of the medical field in Sri Lanka.

The Chief Guest Major General(Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne addressed the gathering on the significance of medicine in the lives of military personnel adding his own life changing experiences from battlefield operations in the past.

The Vote of thanks was delivered by the Secretary of SLCOMM Surgeon Lieutenant Commander Himali Dharmaweera.
