Navy assists to apprehend two illegal cannabis growers

Two persons who had grown local cannabis secretly were apprehended during a combined operation conducted at Maththala area by Navy in coordination with Police Anti Corruption Unit-Hambanthota, on 10^th March 2020.

Expanding the operations conducted by the Navy to eliminate the drug menace from the island, Naval personnel attached to Southern Naval Command carried out this operation at Maththala area in coordination with the Police Anti Corruption Unit-Hambanthota and discovered this cannabis chena which had been cultivated secretly. Two suspects, 200 Nos. of local cannabis saplings and a locally made shotgun were also taken into custody.

The suspects are 29 and 35 years old residents of Ambalanthota and Barawakumbuka areas. Apprehended suspects, local cannabis saplings and the shotgun were handed over to Hambanthota Police for further investigations.
