Person apprehended with a stock of chemical containing glyphosate

A suspect with a stock of chemical containing glyphosate was apprehended during a raid conducted by the Navy in coordination with Police at Kotahena town, on 8^th March 2020.

SL Navy is constantly contributing to avert the illegal activities and during such a raid carried out by Navy at Kotahena town (Jampata Street) with the assistance of Police STF, a suspicious person was observed and by searching the person, 600 packets each containing 100g (60kg) banned agrochemical glyphosate were recovered. By further search of his residence, 270 packets each containing 490g (132kg and 300g) of another unidentified herbicide were found. This stock of banned chemical was transporting for sale and accordingly the suspect was apprehended with both stocks of chemical.

The suspect is a resident of Kelaniya area aged 55. The accused along with the packets of banned chemical was handed over to Paliyagoda Police for onward investigation.
