Navy renders assistance to clean roads and sidewalks in Galle
The Navy rendered assistance in terms of providing manpower to clean the main road and sidewalks in Galle town area on 28th February 2020. This programme has been organized as part of the street cleaning week in line with ‘Pivithuru Dakunak Lassana Hetak’ – a project under ‘Rata Hadana Saubhagyaye Dakma’ of the President HE Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Green and Blue concept of Sri Lanka Navy.
Accordingly, the Galle Road and its sidewalks all the way from Magalla to Galle town were cleaned during this cleaning drive which had been organized under the supervision of Commander Southern Naval Area. The officers and sailors engaged in this clean-up drive managed to clean the road and pavements as well as drainage system which had been littered with plastic, polythene and other garbage over a long period of time.
Going by the Green and Blue Drive – a visionary concept mooted by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, the Navy has been conducting a wide range of cleaning as well as conservation programmes in each Naval Command.
