Navy apprehends 02 persons for engaging in fishing using unauthorized fishing nets
The Navy, during a patrol in the sea area of Iranativu on 01st March 2020, apprehended 02 persons who were engaging in fishing using unauthorized fishing nets.
The Navy has been conducting regular patrols in island’s waters for the prevention of illegal fishing practices. Accordingly, a group of naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command patrolling in the sea area of Iranativu had held these 02 persons for using unauthorized fishing nets to catch fish. Along with the accused 01 dinghy, 08 unauthorized fishing nets, 01 outboard motor and several other fishing gear were taken into naval custody. The apprehended persons have been identified as residents of Pooneryn, aged 29 and 38.
The accused along with the seized items were handed over to the Kilinochchi Fisheries Inspector for onward investigation.
