Person apprehended with a stock of chemical containing glyphosate
A suspect with a stock of chemical containing glyphosate was apprehended during a search conducted by the Navy in coordination with Police near the Omanthe Army check point, on 25th February 2020.
A suspicious van was checked during a search operation carried out by the Navy near the Omanthe Army check point, with the assistance of Police STF in Settikulam and found 1897 packets (189kg and 700g) of chemical which contained banned agrochemical glyphosate. The packets of glyphosate were being transported for sale and one suspect was apprehended accordingly.
The suspect is a resident of Veyangoda area aged 49. The accused along with the van and packets of banned chemical were handed over to Omanthe Police for onward investigation.
