Five unauthorized divers apprehended by Navy

Navy apprehended five (05) unauthorized divers who were engaging in illegal diving in restricted areas for diving at the seas off Udappuwa, Puttalam, on 18^th February 2020.

Accordingly, five divers who were engaging in illegal diving, had been spotted by the Naval craft on patrol in Udappuwa sea area and they were apprehended with two dinghies. It was revealed that these persons had engaged in diving for catching conch shells. The suspects were identified as the residents of Konthanthivu area in Puttalam , 40 to 50 years in age.

Further, 16 oxygen tanks used for diving, 02 OBMs and other fishing gears used by them were also taken into Naval custody and they were handed over to Assistant Director of Fisheries-Puttalam for further investigation.
