Navy apprehends 02 persons for engaging in fishing with diving gears
The Navy apprehended 02 persons who engaged in fishing using diving gears without permits, during a patrol carried out in Pallimune beach area, Mannar on 11th February 2020.
As a preventive measure on destruction of marine resources due to the unauthorized fishing practices, SL Navy carries out patrols in the seas and coastal belt around the island. Accordingly, while conducting a patrol in Pallimune beach area, Mannar Navy held these 02 persons who engaged in fishing using diving gears. Along with the suspects diving gears and other fishing gears were seized.
The suspects have been identified as residents of Mannar and Silawathura areas, aged 27 and 29. The apprehended persons together with the diving and fishing gears were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Mannar for onward action.
