Navy apprehends person with a stock of turtle flesh

The Navy apprehended a suspect with a stock of turtle flesh during a search operation conducted in Iluppukadawai area on 11^th February 2020.

The Navy that is playing a pivotal role in preservation of ocean resources in the territorial waters of the island, observed a suspicious fishing boat during an operation conducted in Iluppukadawai area. By the search of the boat Navy found about 25kg of turtle flesh inside it and accordingly the stock of turtle flesh along with the suspect onboard and fishing gears were taken into naval custody.

The suspect has been identified as a resident of the same area, aged 39. The stock of turtle flesh, suspect and fishing gears were handed over to the Office of the Fisheries Inspector-Vedithalativu for further action.
