Navy launches mangrove plantation campaign in Panama
The Navy, being a prominent player in conducting marine and terrestrial conservation programmes, carried out another event at Panama today (08th February 2020) to promote productive ecosystems through plantation of mangrove saplings.
The programme, in which 1000 mangrove saplings were planted by the Navy in the lagoon area of Panama, was organized by the Southeastern Naval Command. The event had been organized as part of the ‘Green and Blue’ Project – a visionary concept mooted by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. The programme was also attended by Commander Southeastern Naval Area, officers and sailors.
Apart from the conservation of mangrove ecosystem, the Navy has also been conducting a wide range of conservation programmes such as turtle conservation, bio-gas projects, coral conservation etc. which contribute significantly to the protection of Sri Lanka's marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
