Navy seizes over 700kg of beedi leaves in Sinnapadu sea area
The Navy recovered over 700kg of wet beedi leaves floating in waters, during a patrol conducted in Sinnapadu sea area on 07th February 2020.
The Navy has been vigilant over drugs being smuggled into the island via sea routes. During a patrol conducted in Sinnapadu sea area, the Navy has spotted several suspicious packages floating in waters. As the packages were retrieved and unpacked, there were wet beedi leaves, weighing over 700kg. The consignment of beedi leaves was accordingly taken into naval custody.
The stock of beedi leaves is believed to have been left behind by the smugglers in fear of routine naval patrols. The seized consignment of beedi leaves was subsequently handed over to the Sinnapadu Customs Office for onward investigation.
