Navy apprehends person with cache of explosive used for illegal fishing

During a joint search operation conducted by the Navy and the Police in Ottamawadi area on 06^th February 2020, a person with a cache of explosive used for illegal fishing, was apprehended.

Since the use of explosive for fishing illegally, the marine eco system is immensely harmed and SL Navy frequently extends its operations to thwart such illegal attempts.The Navy conducted this search operation in coordination with the Police STF- Kalawanchikudi and apprehended a suspect with 45 gelignite sticks, 33 feet length safety fuse and 70 Nos of non electric detonators.

The suspect has been identified as a resident of the same area, aged 57. The accused along with explosive items were handed over to the Valachchane Police for further investigation.
