Approximately 10kg of Kerala cannabis found during naval operation in northern seas

The Navy managed to find approximately 10kg of Kerala cannabis, during a naval operation conducted in the seas off Madagal, Jaffna on 04^th February 2020.

As part of the Navy’s constant search operations in island’s waters, the Navy patrolling in the sea area of Madagal, Jaffna managed to recover several packages which were adrift in water. During further investigation, 10kg of Kerala cannabis was found in the packages.

It is believed that the smugglers might have abandoned this stock of Kerala cannabis at sea, in fear of constant naval operations conducted to prevent drug trafficking via sea. The seized consignment of drugs was handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau of Jaffna for onward investigation.
