Twelve (12) persons apprehended with unauthorized fishing nets

The Navy apprehended 12 persons with unauthorized fishing nets, during a raid conducted in Mannar on 31^st January 2020.

The Navy has been conducting regular operations to prevent the use of unauthorized fishing nets which often cause grave marine environmental damages. During two similar operations conducted at South Bar and Wankalei in Mannar, the Navy managed to apprehend 12 persons along with 08 unauthorized fishing nets, 04 fishing vessels and other fishing gear.

The apprehended persons have been identified as residents of Wankalei and Mannar, from 28 to 68 years of age. The apprehended persons along with their fishing gear were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar for onward investigation.
