The Electrical New Design Workshop (East) at Naval Dockyard surpasses yet another milestone

The Naval Propulsion and Steering Control System (NPSC), locally designed and developed by the Electrical New Design Workshop of Commodore Electrical Department (East) which was installed in the Fast Attack Craft P472 was declared opened by Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe, on 29th January 2020.

The design and construction of this “NPSC” system was initiated on 17th June 2019 under the supervision of Commodore Electrical Department (East) with the participation of large number of officers and sailors attached to the department. This project was successfully completed within 12 weeks and the P 472 craft was on test run to identify the defects until January 2020. After confirmation the operational condition of the system it was ceremonially opened by the Commander Eastern Naval Area.

The approximate cost of this project was 3.5 million. The original producer of this system had estimated it into an amount of 94 million and by the worthy effort of the Commodore Electrical Department (East), the Navy could save 90.5 million of Navy’s funds.

Further, the engineers of Electrical New Design Workshop (East) have engaged in providing similar systems to P 460 and P 491 craft within this year and it is expected to complete the project on P 460 by the next month. New “NPSC” systems for p 473, P 474 and P 475 have been planned to be installed in 2021 and 2022.
