Beach cleaning programmes continued with Navy’s contribution
Another beach clean-up drives of the Sri Lanka Navy, were successfully carried out at several beaches in the Northern and Southern Naval Areas, on 25th January 2020.
As part of these programmes, Kayts and Mandathivu island beaches were cleaned by the Northern Naval Command while beach areas in Galle, Tangalle and Hambanthota were cleaned by Southern Naval Command. These campaigns were assisted by civilians and as a result of untiring effort of the naval and civil personnel it was able to restore the previous charm of the beaches which had been severely polluted by natural causes and irresponsible human activities.
Under the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, naval personnel in each Naval Command are engaging in keeping the coastal belt around the island clean and free of pollution to draw the attraction of both local and foreign tourists.
