Person held with 89 unauthorized fishing nets in Padaviya

The Navy apprehended a person with 89 unauthorized fishing nets, during a coordinated search conducted in Padaviya area on 23^rd January 2020..

The Navy has been conducting regular operations to prevent grave marine environmental damages caused by illegal fishing. During a similar operation conducted with the Padaviya Division Vice Squad, 89 unauthorized fishing nets have been found in a house which was searched on suspicion. During the search, a suspect residing in the house was also taken into custody. He has been identified as a resident of the same area, aged 49.

The Padaviya Police is conducting further investigation with regard to the suspect and unauthorized fishing nets. Further, the Navy remains vigilant over illegal fishing practices and will continue to nab those who engage in such activities.
