Navy beach cleaning programmes deliver valuable returns; sea turtle eggs found at Galle Face beach
The coastal and marine environment conservation activities conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy have started to deliver favorable returns as of now.
As an eloquent testimony to this fact, several sea turtle eggs have been found at the Galle Face beach today (18th January 2020), during a beach cleaning inspection visit by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. Since this has been a rare sight at the Galle Face beach in the densely populated city, the naval personnel promptly encircled the area, giving the eggs a protected hatchling ground, under the directives of Commander of the Navy.
The Navy is currently going beyond its statutory duties and contributing to various projects including the development of the country. As part of this effort, the Navy contributes to the national task of making the coastal belt around the island clean and tidy. In support of this, beach cleaning programmes are being conducted in all naval commands.
Further, the Sri Lanka Navy, with a highly efficient workforce, has identified the importance of protecting the marine resources and is doing a great job for making the coastal belt clean and free of pollution and for the protection of ocean’s resources
