Navy recovers stock of beedi leaves along with 02 dinghies in Karainagar

The Navy managed to recover about 1060kg and 200g of beedi leaves along with 02 dinghies, during a search conducted in the sea area of Karainagar today (18th January 2020).

The Northern Naval Command, whilst on a search operation in the sea area of Karainagar, Jaffna, had spotted 02 suspicious dinghies at the Ceynor Jetty. During further investigation, the naval personnel managed to find about 1060kg and 200g of beedi leaves (29 packages) in the dinghies. Accordingly, the 02 dinghies and the stock of beedi leaves were taken into naval custody. It is believed that the suspects might have fled the scene, leaving the 02 dinghies, in fear of regular naval operations. The seized beedi leaves and dinghies were handed over to the Tellippalai Customs office in Jaffna for onward investigation.

The Navy managed to apprehend a number of persons for engaging in illegal activities, during its recent naval operations. Further, the Navy will remain to be vigilant over such illegal acts taking place within the island and off its shores.
