Two (02) persons apprehended with unauthorized fishing nets

The Navy seized a haul of unauthorized fishing nets, during a coordinated search conducted with the Police in Jaffna town today (18^th January 2020).

The Navy has been playing a key role to prevent illegal activities taking place across the country. During a similar raid conducted with the assistance of the Special Task Force of Jaffna in the town area of Jaffna, the Navy managed to find this haul of unauthorized fishing nets which were on sale at 02 retail shops. Accordingly, the 02 shop keepers were also taken into custody.

The apprehended persons are residents of the same area, aged 42 and 53. The apprehended persons along with the unauthorized fishing nets were handed over to the Jaffna Fisheries Inspector for onward investigation.
