Navy renders assistance to bring injured fisherman ashore

The Northern Naval Command, on 16th January 2020, rendered assistance to bring ashore an injured fisherman who was onboard a multiday fishing trawler.

On receipt of information from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of an injured fisherman onboard the multiday fishing trawler ‘Ameendra 04’ which was about 138 nautical miles northeast of Point Pedro, a naval craft attached to the Northern Naval Command was dispatched to retrieve the injured person. This multiday fishing vessel had left the Suduwella fisheries harbour, Matara for fishing on 28th December 2019.

Having located the vessel with the injured fisherman, the Navy brought the wounded person ashore while administering first aid. Thereupon, he was rushed to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital by a naval ambulance for further treatment. Meanwhile, the Navy stands ready by all means to assist distressed naval and fishing community in the maritime Search and Rescue Region of Sri Lanka.
