Three (03) persons apprehended for engaging in illegal fishing

The Navy during a patrol in seas off Pukkulam in Puttalam, apprehended 03 persons who engaged in illegal fishing on 13^th January 2020.

The Navy has been conducting regular operations to curb illegal fishing practices in island’s waters. Accordingly the Navy, during a patrol in seas off Pukkulam, apprehended these 03 persons for engaging in illegal fishing. Along with the suspects, 01 dinghy, 01 unauthorized fishing net and an outboard motor were also taken into custody. The apprehended persons who are from 31 to 35 years of age have been identified as residents of Kalpitiya.

The apprehended persons together with the dinghy, the unauthorized fishing net and other fishing gear were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar for further investigation.
